Want to know how the hoya blooms and understand why it does not bloom?

According to myths and legends, all the creepers growing in the house bring failure to the owners. But this is nothing more than someone's stupid fiction.

If you have a desire to get a weaving domestic plant, feel free to turn words into actions and go to the store for a hoya. You will learn when wax ivy gives flowers at home, why this does not happen and what to do with it, that is, how to make the plant bloom.

When and how often does this happen?

Wax ivy usually pleases gardeners with its flowering in the summer or autumn. The frequency of flowering depends on the correctness and regularity of care. Of course, if you wish, you can achieve continuous flowering, creating summer conditions in the house and in the winter, but in this case the plant will not rest and gain new strength. And this is fraught with at least a weak following flowering, and as a maximum with illnesses and a general poor state of hoya.

How to make wax ivy give flowers at home?

Usually this plant blooms in the second or third year after rooting. Maybe earlier, but this is more an exception than a due. There are no special instructions for the care of wax ivy. The only requirement is proper lighting.

The more light falls on the hoya during the day, the greater the likelihood that it will bloom and will do this for a long time.

It will be good if the bulk of the light falls on the morning and evening hours. The plant must be protected from midday rays. But this only applies to hot summer days. In other periods, you can safely put a flowerpot with a flower in the place where there is always a lot of light.

An important point is the placement of the flower pot. Choose southeast, southwest, east and west window sills. Moreover, the further you place the ivy from the window, the less light it will receive during the day. So, for example, a meter from the window, the plant will receive only half of all the possible lighting, at a distance of three meters only 10% of the light will reach the hoya. But directly on the windowsill, the plant will receive all the necessary 80%.

What does the process look like, photo

In most cases, the inflorescences take the form of an umbrella. On this inflorescence are flowers, the number of which ranges from one to fifty. Flower petals can have a wide variety of shapes and colors depending on the type of hoya. But all the petals are united by one common attribute: their number is always equal to five. During flowering, a pleasant light aroma appears in the room. Flowering time can vary from a few days to several weeks..

Flowering care

If you notice the first flowers on the hoya, this indicates that you are doing everything right and care points should not be changed.

ATTENTION! During flowering, ivy can not be rearranged or even simply rotated, changing its location relative to lighting. And also do not be very zealous with top dressing. This will only lead to negative consequences.

The rules for caring for a hoya at home are described in a separate article.

What to do to see the blossoming flowers?

To understand why your pet does not bloom, you need to analyze each factor in caring for the plant and find errors in them that should be immediately eliminated.

Flowerpot size

The reason may be in excess of space. It should not be much. The pot should be as small as possible. Ideally, the root system should be even a little cramped in your "home". You can not transplant the hoya for at least five years.

Lighting

There should always be a lot of light. But if you placed a flower on the south side of the room in the summer, make sure that you can shade ivy during the hours of the most scorching rays. Use reflective foil or just a sheet of paper. Experienced recommend avoiding open air for this creeper.

Proper watering

Rare watering is considered correct. After each moistening of the soil, wait until it is completely dry. This applies to the hot summer season.

But if we talk about the cold season, then in this case you should not rush with watering, even after the soil has completely dried up.

Good drying of the soil and root system in winter is the key to the abundant flowering of Zoya in the summer.

Wintering

At this time of the year, you need to give the plant the opportunity to relax and gain strength for the new season. In winter, you must provide the following conditions:

  • minimal soil moisture;
  • reduction of top dressing to nothing;
  • lowering the temperature in the room to 10-14 degrees above zero.

Substrate

The soil should be loosened, soft, breathable. To properly prepare the soil for wax ivy, take in equal proportions the finished store substrate, peat and sand.

Top dressing

It should not be frequent in any season. In addition to ready-made complex fertilizers, gardeners recommend feeding cows with moss. Such nutrition will positively affect the subsequent flowering.

Age

This factor must be taken into account while waiting for the first flowers from the hoya. After all, young plants will not be able to bloom. A couple of years should pass before this process. Flowering in the first year of "life" is a rarity.

"Bathhouse"

This method of making a liana blossom is considered extreme.. It is used in cases where all of the above methods do not help to achieve flowers.

What do I need to do?

  1. In the autumn or winter, place the ground part of ivy in water, heated to 35-40 degrees for about half an hour.
  2. Soil with the root system in the same water - for an hour and a half.

Such a process activates all the vital processes of a plant, including flowering.

If the result is not noticeable the first time, you can repeat the procedure, but not earlier than after six months.

Further events

After the wax ivy fades, it will give seeds for propagation. We do not recommend to remove the remaining flower stalks - flowers will appear on them again next season, and then you will not have to wait for the release of a new flower stalk.

Conclusion

Any plant is similar to a small child who requires constant care. Therefore, having decided to start even a simple flower in your house, get ready for the fact that now you will have to give some of your time to your “baby”. And then this "baby" will answer you with its lush greenery and flowering.
